Overview

The primary objective of the project is to create a system that will transport luggage utilizing a Q-Arm. The luggage is transported from a rotating platform to either a rejection bin or transportation ramp, after which a mechanism we designed will relocate the luggage from the ramp to a lower platform. Our team looked to develop a scissor mechanism along with a ramp that successfully transported the luggage from the ramp to the lower platform in a very controlled and stable fashion. In terms of our decision-making process, we were able to accurately locate, grasp and maneuver luggage based on barcodes. In addition to Q-Arm code, my team was successful in sorting through large sets of data, inputting them into useful lists, as well as analyzing the data to make accurate decisions. I played a large role in coding the several components of the data analyzing code, along the grove and nail sliding mechanism idea and implementation. In terms of hands-on contributions, I was in charge of all physical components of the whole system including assembling, analyzing shortcomings and determining methods of improvement. All in all the project was very successful thanks to all the hard work and commitment put in by all team members.

Key Features

  • Q-Arm Precision: The Q-Arm is the central component of the system, efficiently transporting luggage from the rotating platform to either a rejection bin or transportation ramp. The arm is designed for precise handling and accurate movement of luggage, making the sorting process both quick and reliable.

  • Scissor Mechanism for Stable Relocation: A scissor mechanism is integrated into the design to move luggage from the ramp to a lower platform. This mechanism ensures the luggage is securely transferred in a controlled, stable manner, reducing the risk of dropping or misplacement.

  • Barcode-Based Sorting: The system incorporates barcode scanning technology to accurately locate and grasp luggage. This automation allows the system to efficiently sort luggage based on unique identifiers, reducing manual intervention and improving throughput.

  • Data Analysis for Efficient Decision Making: The system utilizes advanced data analysis algorithms to process large sets of data, input them into useful lists, and analyze the data to make real-time, accurate decisions about the movement and sorting of luggage.

  • Grove and Nail Sliding Mechanism: The Grove and Nail Sliding Mechanism was designed to smoothly relocate luggage from the ramp to the lower platform, ensuring the process is stable and free from jams.
